Firestick Settings for IPTV in Canada (4K, 60FPS)

The Fire TV Stick is the most common IPTV device in Canada. Out of the box it is not tuned for live TV. Ten minutes in the settings make a clear difference.
Frame rate
Open Settings → Display & Sounds → Display and switch on Match Original Frame Rate. North American channels run at 60 fps and many European ones at 50 fps; matching removes the jerky motion you notice in sports.
Resolution
Keep Video Resolution on Auto in the same menu. Only choose a fixed resolution if your TV flickers or loses the picture.
Storage
In Settings → Applications → Manage Installed Applications, remove apps you do not use and clear the cache of large ones. Leave at least a few hundred megabytes free.
Background activity
- Turn off Data Monitoring in Settings → Preferences.
- In Settings → Preferences → Privacy Settings, turn off the options that collect usage data.
- Turn off automatic updates in Settings → Applications → Appstore and update apps when you are not watching.
Network
An Ethernet adapter gives the steadiest picture. On Wi-Fi, pick the 5 GHz network and use the HDMI extender that came in the box so the stick is not hidden behind the TV.
Weekly restart
Settings → My Fire TV → Restart once a week clears memory and fixes many small slowdowns.
Player settings
Finally, install your player with the IPTV CND setup guide and set hardware decoding and a medium buffer, as shown in the buffering guide.
